May 2024 Update

The stone node had to be redone as I wanted to isolate the grass layer that serves as a way to give depth to this asset. I did the same with the stump node, but had to redo that anyway due to a screw up I did when pasting the layers into Gimp.

I then proceeded to cheat and reuse the same Godot node setup I used for the homestead. Although the animation looks somewhat nicer for the field version.

The trees were next. I didn’t want to have too many visible leaves like the tree in the homestead and instead wanted a sort of ‘oil paint’ foliage with a speckle of leaves. The method I devised could use some refinement, but I’m liking the general results.

I recycled part of the tree foliage to make some bush props. Later on in development I want to make some berry bushes. But since the item slots are not functional as of yet I’ll just skip for now.

Now that I have a little more variety in the greenery, I wanted to add some man made props. I started with some crates and then made a broken down wagon.

And that’s all I got done since last month….. Yes, another not so productive month. But it is, what it is.

I have some days off work coming up so I plan to relax, unwind and tell all my problems to fuck off. Then continue on making more artwork for the field level.

I also plan to go back to FL Studio and try my hand at sound design (I’m fairly sure I mentioned somewhere I was going to skip it for now, but I need a change of pace). The royalty free sounds and music are nice, but feel lacking in the feelings I want to convey.

Sound effects are also an issue I want to address. Although I have a lot of royalty free sounds, they feel lacking at times and completely miss the mark for the rest. Addressing this will be part of my sound design training that I plan to do in the coming days.

Until next month.
